The Best Walking Trails for Strollers in Northern Nevada

With spring just around the corner we're all thinking about getting out of the house with our little one(s). Being able to take your stroller means your kid(s) will have a place to relax and you'll have a spot to stow all of your gear. FIT4MOM Reno has compiled a short list of our favorite stroller friendly walking trails in the Reno-Sparks area. We'll start the blog with South Reno trails before moving to North Reno and then Sparks.

Damonte Ranch Trail

Connecting to Damonte Ranch Park, the Damonte Ranch Trail is a personal favorite (and for good reason)! This 3 mile loop is paved, flat, and wide enough for two strollers to walk side by side (most of the time) and surrounded by beautiful scenery. As a bonus there's always the chance that you'll come across wild horses (be sure to keep your distance though)!

With this trail you do need to walk for a few minutes on the sidewalk along Veteran's Parkway, but that's a small price to pay for this otherwise perfect loop.

This trail is suitable for all stroller types and has bathrooms located at the park.

Virginia Lake Loop

This is another FIT4MOM Reno favorite. This loop is one easy, flat, paved mile around Virginia Lake. Parking is plentiful, there's shade for big portions of the walk and bathrooms in two different locations.

This trail is also suitable for all stroller types.

Truckee River Trail - Wingfield to Idlewild and Beyond

If you google it, this out and back walk has many different names and starting points. We suggest starting near Wingfield Park and walking along the river to Hub Coffee Roasters. After you grab coffee and a snack at Hub, continue on the sidewalk to wards Idlewild Park. From here you get to walk right along the river again pretty much as far as you'd like!

The best thing about this walk is you get to determine the length since it's not a loop. You can stroll past Idlewild along the river until the paved trail ends and follow the sidewalks to where the trail starts up again and end up at Crissie Caughlin Park. If you still feel up for walking farther you can continue on the trail until it ends again on the other side of McCarran Blvd.

This trail is mostly flat, paved, wide and beautiful. There are many public bathrooms to stop at along the way and many playgrounds to enjoy. The one downside is the trail ending in a few spots and having to walk along the street. It's not a dealbreaker though, this walk is awesome.

Caughlin Ranch Paved Walking Trail

This one may just be a hidden gem. Looking on Google maps doesn't give you a name for this hike (and neither did our Google searching).

Where Caughlin Parkway starts across McCarran Blvd from Plumb Ln you'll go around a corner and see a few little ponds and street parking. Park here and follow the trail southwest (the other direction ends pretty quickly). This trail is paved and well maintained. This might be the most difficult of the walking paths listed in this blog. It's not super steep, but there are many hilly portions of this walk. But the beauty of it is that it's an out and back walk, so you can turn around whenever you're ready. If you follow the trail until the pavement ends it's about 3 miles round trip.

There are some bumpier parts on this walk, but it should still be suitable for all stroller types. One downside to this walk is that there are no public bathrooms available.

Sparks Marina Park Lake Loop

This almost two mile loop is another FIT4MOM favorite. It's flat, wide, paved and has stunning views all the way around. Start either at the (almost brand new) accessible playground or grab a coffee at Lighthouse Coffee first. You can't go wrong with this one!

This is a great walk for all stroller types and has free bathrooms available at the playground.

We'll end the blog here today, but be on the lookout for more stroller friendly outing ideas in the Reno-Sparks area coming soon!
